These saddles often last 20, 30, or 40 years, far longer than any gel seat. And they're much more comfortable because the leather -- which is, after all, the skin of a cow -- really breathes and stays much cooler than other saddles. Part of the reason it stays cool is that the leather is not supported underneath by a thick layer of insulating foam. It floats over an outer metal structure, like the skin of a trampoline.
